Growing nursery stock has as much art and personal expression as it does science. Constant vigil and observation to conditions on site are imperative to determine what methods need to be followed. Though outlined in many a How-to manual, no two sites and growing facilities are the same. Flexibility, adaptability, and understanding are demanded in producing the many different varieties and species available at a nursery. At Trent Hill Farm & Nursery, it has been a fruitful 5 years. With a few bumps and bruises along the way, the soils, moisture, and climate have provided the extra ingredients for an unparalleled production of nursery plants. We have completed the first cycle of planting on the 50 acres, and are poised to cycle again. |
I have fully assimilated into the state requirements for farming here in the mid-Atlantic, fulfilling my certification as a Nutrient Management Applicator, a Certified Professional Horticulturist, and a Certified Pesticide Applicator. These are serious responsibilities; with the potential to affect many. We try to do our small part as stewards of the land. |
In our small beginnings, we were always pleased to be invited and welcomed to many of the other nurseries around the area, to examine their plants and facilities. We would now like to offer the reciprocal to any who are interested in our plant material. The fields are always ready for a tour, all we ask is a call ahead to verify our availability to your visit. To all the joys of gardening, Sam Smith and Staff Trent Hill Farm & Nursery |
